Celebrity Status.

In my opinion, celebrities have a certain responsibility to set a good example for their fans, especially the younger ones, because they are looked up to, and are role models in a way, and children are so impressionable. Have you noticed that whenever a celebrity screws up big time, all they have to do is apologize, and society gives them a pat on their ass and sends them on their way! Why are we so quick to forgive them? My guess is because we think it's so hard to be them, with all of the pressure of being famous... I think it's bull shyte. I'm sure we're all too familiar with the whole Dixie-Chicks-are-traitors thing? In 2003, when they were playing a show in London, England, Natalie Maines announced to the audience that she is ashamed that President George Bush is from Texas. This obviously caused a massive uproar in the States. Maines was given an opportunity to apologize to her country, and it's president, but did not take it. I am extremely impressed by her decision, and because of what she did, I have complete respect for her, but if Maines had apologized, a great majority of the country would have forgiven her, and she would have been let off the hook, just because she's famous. I don't think celebrities should be allowed to just apologize and get away with saying awful things.
"In the future, everybody will be world-famous for 15 minutes." -Andy Warhol
If I had those 15 minutes of fame, I'm not going to lie, I would bask in it and take advantage of the opportunity, but by no means would I lose myself during my minutes of fame. I would still be the same boring, down-to-earth teenager, just with a good chunk of cash and something to be recognized by (photography, maybe? I wish...) Another thing I wouldn't do is take advantage of my friends and family and treat them like crap. If anything, I would share my wealth with them, and hope that they wouldn't take advantage of me. Anywho...
